Sir: Karachi has become sepia coloured. Everywhere I go, every road, street, wall, and more, is marked with the same red splatter patterns. I do not understand people who feel the need to consumer pan and then think it is okay for them to go around spitting all over the place. Any space that is outside your house is shared space, you may not do as you please, when you please. I have had many arguments with people who have been spitting on the road but it seems as though my words fall on deaf ears. At times, I even have gentlemen flash me a smile with their teeth displaying red gunk to the world. If someone takes up a habit that is bad for them and for people around them then it is their responsibility to take care of that habit. It should be criminalised and people should be fined heavily for this practice of throwing trash anywhere they want or spiting anything anywhere. I want to keep my Karachi clean, but it is people like these pan eaters that make it hard for all of us. Anytime you begin to take action and try to fix a problem, the very people that are supposed to help begin to ask you why you are being so serious. When it comes to spitting in the city, I say no more! SHEHNEELA AKBAR Karachi Published in Daily Times, July 8th 2018.
