Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Friday said that some elements were trying to make Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) the “king’s party”. Addressing the media in Khangarh city of Ghotki, Bilawal maintained that every effort was being made to make PTI the “king’s party” and alliances like the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) were part of the “grand plan”. “After helping them (PTI) for years, they could not make PTI a successful party,” the PPP scion said, adding that the people were not ready to vote for the PTI. He said that pre-poll rigging was going on but still the PPP would emerge victorious. Separately, the PPP chairman Friday said that only his party, which gave South Punjab its first premier, could convert the region into a province. He was speaking to a rally in Sadiqabad city of Rahim Yar Khan. Bilawal said that his party had developed hospitals and universities in the Sindh province and could do the same in the rest of the country country if elected to power. Taking a jibe at his political opponents, he claimed that PPP believed in serving the nation rather than constructing metro projects. He also questioned if the throne of Raiwind (indirect reference to Sharif family) did anything to solve the problems of people in South Punjab. Moreover, he said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government failed to build a single hospital or university for its people. “Poverty is the biggest challenge facing Pakistan right now,” he said, adding the PPP wouild work towards getting all the farmers registered. “We will issue Benazir Kisan cards to all farmers, which would allow them to attain interest-free loans and subsidies.” He remarked that PPP’s manifesto was ‘people-friendly’, sharing that he wanted to come to power to eliminate the menace of terrorism. “I want to come to power for people.” Published in Daily Times, July 7th 2018.
