Sir: It is by no means wrong for the state to take action against corrupt individuals who have amassed wealth they cannot offer explanations for. However, when institutions apply accountability in a manner that only targets certain individuals, it becomes a tool ofcontrol. True accountability can only happen if it is applied across the board. This means that institutions which are exempt from accountability should not receive special treatment. The fact that some of the aforementioned institutions had a role to play in the misfortunes plaguing the Sharif family since the Panama Papers first surfaced, shows that there are ulterior motives behind these developments. In the long run, this will only strengthen the culture of corruption that plagues this country. I only hope that Pakistan’s descent into chaos stops here.
