Employees of the Municipal Corporation on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration against misbehaviour of the Municipal Officer Regulation (MOR) with his subordinates. The Municipal Corporation staff locked main gate of the office and staged protest against MOR Shehzad Naveed Gohar for allegedly slapping driver Irshad Ahmed on Monday. The employees of the corporation chanted full-throated slogans against the officer. While talking to media persons, Irshad Ahmed said, “My duty is on coffin bus but on the order of municipal officer I frequently perform duty even at his home. Few days ago I came to know that municipal officer regulation Shehzad Naveed Gohar has stopped my salary without any reason, when I went to his office to ascertain the reason. After exchanging arguments, he slapped me and asked me to get lost.” Shahid Raza, who is the Secretary Information of the Labour Union at Municipal Corporation said, due to the lack of unity among the employees, the officers didn’t hesitate even to misbehave with their subordinate staff, the officers didn’t have any right to slap his subordinates. The protesting employees alleged that this was not the first time that such an unfortunate incident took place. They alleged that if any employee refused to obey irrelevant orders, their officer resort to revengeful treatment. The MOR is also alleged of withholding pension of an employee even after forced retirement because of personal differences. Later, Municipal Corporation Chief Officer Shafqat Raza negotiated with the employees and assured them to take departmental action against the officer. The chief officer also ordered the concerned officer to instantly release salary of the affected Ahmed. After negotiations with chief officer, the protesting employees end their strike and returned to their duties. Published in Daily Times, July 4th 2018.
