Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa Monday confirmed death sentences of 12 ‘hardcore terrorists’, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The army chief also ratified prison terms awarded to six other convicts, the ISPR said in a statement, adding the convicts were involved in attacks on civilians, armed forces and law enforcement agencies. These terrorists were also involved in an attack on central Imambargah in Parachinar, Kurram Agency, the statement read. The terrorists were also involved in killing of 34 people including 26 civilians, eight armed forces and frontier constabulary personnel, as well as injuring 133 others. Arms and explosives were also recovered from their possession. Meanwhile, six others were awarded life imprisonment. A civilian, Ehsan Ullah, also tried by special military court, was found not guilty and was acquitted. Published in Daily Times, July 3rd 2018.
