The recent hike in petroleum price on Monday was challenged in the Lahore High Court. Advocate Azhar Siddique challenged the hike in prices. “The caretaker government has no right to increase or decrease prices of petroleum prices,” Azhar Siddique said in his plea. Earlier, the caretaker government approved on Saturday a significant upward revision in the petroleum prices, citing an official announcement, with the new rates being effective by July 1. As per the notification, the new per-litre prices of petrol, diesel, kerosene oil, light diesel and high-speed diesel are Rs 99.50, Rs 119.31, Rs 87.70, Rs 80.91 and Rs 105.31, respectively. Earlier, the Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority had recommended an increase in the prices of petrol, diesel and kerosene oil by Rs 5.40, Rs 6.20 and Rs 12, respectively, for July 2018. The Pakistan People’s Party on Sunday has rejected the hike in petroleum products’ prices. In a statement, former opposition leader in National Assembly Khurshid Shah has demanded the caretaker government to withdraw its decision. He also urged to provide maximum relief to the nation.
