GUJRANWALA: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shoaib Tariq Warraich on Saturday expressed dissatisfaction over the inadequate waste management practices in Gujranwala when he inspected the sewerage system, drainage and cleanliness situation of the city. Reportedly, he ordered the concerned officers to act immediately and remove heaps of garbage from many areas that caused blockade in the drainage system. The assistant deputy commissioner Rao Sohail Akhter, chief municipal officer Khawaja Imran and others were also present during his visit. He also directed the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) authorities to adopt effective measures for proper draining of water whenever it rains, particularly from the premises of DHQ Hospital. “The sanitation staff is responsible for arranging sucker and mobile pumping machines, and an adequate sewage disposal,” he said during his visit to DHQ Hospital. Meanwhile, MS Dr Anwar Aman briefed the DC on the facilities being provided to the patients. Later, the DC also inspected Nigar Chowk and ordered waste management company to remove piles of trash lying on roads. While visiting polling stations for the upcoming general election-2018, he analysed the proposed security arrangements and directed officers to ensure foolproof security measures for the polling process of free, fair, transparent and impartial elections.
