ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will be fielding two female boxers for the first time at the Asian Games in August as the country debuts in female boxing at the continental level. According to the Pakistan Boxing federation (PBF) secretary Nasir Ijaz Tung, the national camp has started in Islamabad and the preparations for the Games are in full-swing. “We will be sending our teams to the Games and women are a part of it,” Tung was quoted as saying Tuesday. “We will be sending two women to mark our debut in female boxing at the Asian Games. We are not expecting medals but this is a beginning and we’ll want to see them perform well.” Meanwhile, five male boxer will also get selected from the camp. So far the camp has 18 male boxers and five female boxers training with three coaches in Islamabad. Tung added that in order to prepare the team well, the PBF was trying to send the team to Iran next month. “We are waiting for the confirmation from Iran as their team is also in Thailand. As soon as they would return we’ll see if our team can go there.” Pakistan men were also supposed to compete in Germany earlier this month from June 19 but the team did not get visas.
