An accountability court hearing corruption reference against the Sharif family Monday allowed former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz to stay in London for three more days. The court was initially requested to grant a seven-day extension, however, both Nawaz and Maryam were granted three-day extension in London where they had earlier arrived to see ailing Begum Kulsoom Nawaz. The medical report of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz was also presented before the court in which it was stated that after the heart attack, her kidneys were not functioning properly. “She is reportedly off antibiotics and, according to the June 22 report, she has shown some improvement.” The report did not state whether she was still on the ventilator. The NAB prosecutor raised objections on the report, saying that the report was not signed and ergo not valid. Nawaz’s lawyer Khawaja Haris said that a signed report would be submitted to the court soon. Separately, speaking to the media Maryam’s husband Captain (r) Mohammad Safdar said he, too, wanted to go to London to see his mother-in-law but someone from the family had to make a ‘sacrifice’ and stay in Pakistan. Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz Monday said that that improvement in her mother’s health had been stopped due to infection. Talking to the newsmen in London outside Harleys Street Clinic, she ruled out rumours that Nawaz’ won’t return to Pakistan. Published in Daily Times, June 26th 2018.
