GUJRANWALA: The Gujranwala deputy commissioner, who has been appointed as district monitoring officer, Dr Shoaib Tariq on Saturday vowed to ensure implementation of electoral code of conduct in order to hold free, fair and peaceful elections in the district. “No violation of rules and regulations issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would be tolerated,” he asserted while addressing a meeting at his office. Reportedly, he strictly ordered the officers of monitoring team to keep a vigilant eye on their respective regions, and report violations immediately to the higher authorities. “Conducting free, fair, transparent and impartial election is our national duty to perform,” he added while motivating the officers. Additional deputy commissioner general Zahid Ikram, additional deputy commissioner headquarter Nizarat Shah, all assistant commissioners (ACs) and other officers also attended the meeting. “All candidates should be respected and treated in a good manner without any discrimination,” he further instructed. Man ends his life over domestic issue A man died on Saturday after consuming poison pills. Reportedly, 40-year-old Zahid, a resident of Chandni Chowk in Kamoki, swallowed poison when he got disheartened over a ‘trivial’ domestic issue three days ago. Meanwhile, he was under treatment in DHQ Hospital where he breathed his last. Boy drowns in Chenab Canal A boy drowned on Saturday while taking bath in Chenab Canal in Gujranwala. Reportedly, 15-year-old Qamar slipped into deep water while a Rescue 1122 team fished out his dead body. Gujranwala commissioner takes charge as chairman BISE Meanwhile, Gujranwala commissioner Asadullah Faiz on Saturday assumed the additional charge as chairman Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), the secondary and intermediate education examining board in Gujranwala Division.
