KARACHI: An acute shortage of water has overshadowed the metropolis with the decreasing water levels of Hub dam. The water levels continue to drop to a dangerously low level. Residents of the metropolis on Saturday complained of severe water shortage after Sakhi Hassan hydrant refused to facilitate them. Citizens said that water tankers form long ques at the hydrant which can only entertain 300 to 400 requests to provide water tankers. Women, waiting in long ques since last night said that the Water Board officials had refused to facilitate them. The main sources of water for Karachi are Keenjhar Lake and Hub dam from where the water is pumped through Dhabeji, Gharo and Hub pumping stations. According to former provincial minister Jam Khan Shoro, about 550 MGD are supplied from the Keenjhar Lake and 100 MGD from Hub to meet the requirement of city’s 17 million population.
