KARACHI: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar on Thursday vowed clear the metropolis from the menace of tanker mafia. CJP while hearing a case pertaining to supply of portable drinking water in Supreme Court’s (SC) Karachi Registry praised Sindh Water Commission’s report. The Secretary for water informed the court that the Manchar Lake provided 300 million cubic meters of water annually. CJP Nisar expressing displeasure over the failure of authorities to clean the lake said that “you did not spend even a rupee out of Rs 14.5 billion. The state of the sea is deplorable. Raged CJP Nisar remarked that every day 450 gallons of sewage water was entering the sea water, questioning if the Sindh government had done anything to fix the problem in the last 10 years. The apex court Judge stated that the court will be monitoring the progress itself to ensure safe drinking water is available to the masses. Nisar, angered by the state of affairs, pledged to rid the residents of the tanker mafia, stating that the residents had the right to clean drinking water no matter what.
