Sir: It is highly unfortunate that hoarding and profiteering continued this past Ramazan. The prices of all food items, including basic necessities like wheat, vegetables and milk remained artificially inflated. As usual the government took no action against this criminal practice. It seems rather than being considered a Holy Month, this is considered the season of easy money. First unethical business owners use hoarding to make money in Ramazan, and then they get an additional bonus period when Eid comes around. Amid all this, it is common, poor Pakistanis who suffer. Perhaps this is why Pakistan’s class inequalities are most apparent during Ramzan and Eid-ul-Fitr. RANA NAEEM Faisalabad Published in Daily Times, June 15th 2018.
