Lyari Chakiwara Police on Tuesday said that they launched an intelligence based operation in Sangolen area of Lyari and arrested a suspected target killer. According to the police, the suspect Naveed Puddu alias Waseem who worked as a private security guard was the commander of a 21 member target killing team. According to the police, Waseem, who had been delegated the duty of security in charge of a private bank (Meezan Bank) killed three people and had been involved in grave criminal activities since 2011. The police added that Waseem had succeeded in evading law enforcement agencies. According to the police record, Waseem rose to a key position in gang war, in the epoch of Uzair Jan Baloch – an alleged gang war terrorist and erstwhile head of Lyari Aman committee. The police claimed that the suspect was associated with crimes including target killing, extortion and burgulary. Primary investigation elicited that Waseem, after the arrest of Uzair, went into hiding and worked different jobs to cover his alibi. The police stated that the suspect initially worked as ward staff at Kutyana Memon Hospital but he then got employed at a private security agency Parwest Pacific Security which delegated to him assignments of private banks. Waseem had been assigned the post of private security guard at Meezan Bank Pan Mandi branch when his detention transpired. He has allegedly been heading a team of sharp shooters in Lyari gang wars, some of whom have been detained or killed. Published in Daily Times, June 14th 2018.
