The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday wrote to the Establishment Division to appoint new inspectors general and chief secretaries by today (Wednesday). The ECP also postponed a meeting on election security arrangements to June 14. Initially, the meeting was scheduled for June 13 but the postponement came to ensure that the new appointees also attend the huddle.. The ECP and the Pakistan Army had last month formulated a security strategy for the upcoming general elections, sources said. “The armed forces are expected to provide security to ensure the smooth conduct of elections. The final plan will be announced after a consensus with law enforcement agencies as well as federal and provincial caretaker authorities,” they added. According to sources, security forces may be tasked with acting as a rapid response force to ensure the safe passage of elections. “The ECP will present a formal request on this account,” sources added.
