National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal Tuesday directed the officials to effectively pursue 1,200 under-trial corruption references so that the corrupt could be taken to task. “Today NAB’s conviction ratio is about 77 per cent which is one of the highest as compared to other investigation agencies,” he said while chairing a meeting held here to review performance of NAB. The chairman said NAB was committed to rooting out corruption in all its forms and manifestation by using all its resources with absolute professionalism, transparency, merit and as per law. Deputy chairman, prosecutor general accountability and other senior officers of NAB also attended the meeting. The chairman said NAB’s anti-corruption strategy has been yielding excellent results. He said main focus of NAB is on cases of cheating public at large by fraudulent financial companies, housing and cooperative companies, bank frauds, willful bank loan defaults, misuse of authority and embezzlement of state funds by government servants and corruption by private persons. It was informed that enforcement policy of NAB and initiatives taken by present management under leadership of Justice (r) Javed Iqbal have started yielding excellent results. The chairman directed Operations Division to complete all complaint verifications, inquiries and investigations by ensuring merit, transparency. No laxity in this regard would be tolerated, he said. He directed NAB Lahore to complete 155 inquiries and 49 investigations, NAB Karachi to complete 160 inquiries and 123 investigations, NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to complete 79 inquiries and 25 investigations, NAB Balochistan to complete 80 inquiries and 24 investigations, NAB Rawalpindi to complete 102 inquiries and 43 investigations, NAB Multan to complete 20 inquiries and 10 investigations and NAB Sukkur to complete 96 inquiries and 18 investigations on the basis of solid evidence within the prescribed timeframe as per law.
