On June 7, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had appointed Alauddin Marri as the caretaker chief minister of the province, after a parliamentary committee formed to evolve consensus on a name for the office failed to do so. Marri, who belongs to Mastung district, was recommended by the former provincial government, which had also proposed the name of Sardar Shaukat Popalzai.
