Sir: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan was on a recent episode of the BBC show Hardtalk. On the show, he was asked a very direct question by the host, Zeinab Badawi, about the promises he made during the PTI’s campaign for the 2013 elections. Specifically, she asked Imran Khan about his promise to create 10 million new jobs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and how Khurshid Shah had said PTI didn’t even create 5,000 jobs in KP. When responding to the question, the PTI Chairman completely sidestepped the topic at hand, saying in a nutshell, that since PTI had emerged as a greater political force, it must be doing something right. This was a very disappointing and even childish response. On the show, Imran Khan himself pointed out that the KP province doesn’t re-elect governments it is disappointed with. Hence it would probably be prudent of him to give well-thought out answers instead of sidestepping uncomfortable questions. ANWAR ALI Multan Published in Daily Times, June 12th 2018.
