LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Monday demanded the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take suo motu notice of what they described as “anti-JIT” press conference by senior members of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed and his female colleague Nabila Hakim separately filed resolution in the assembly’s secretariat demanding an action against them. The resolution filed by the opposition leader states that the press conference of four federal ministers – Khawaja Asif, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Ahsan Iqbal and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, which was held on July 8 – was akin to attack of the apex court. He said in the resolution that the minister had levelled baseless allegations on the apex court. “The ministers had not only disgraced the apex court but also threatened it,” the resolution stated. The opposition leader demanded the Supreme Court to take suo motu notice of the press conference and take action against the ministers under the “contempt of court”. In her resolution, Nabila Hakim termed the ministers’ conference an attempt to pressurise the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) constituted by the Supreme Court to probe offshore assets and the premier and his family. She further stated in her resolution that it was also an effort of the ruling cult to make the JIT controversial. Published in Daily Times, July 11th , 2017.
