GUJRANWALA: An anti-corruption team on Friday arrested a Town Municipal Authority (TMA) sub-engineer working at constructions of buildings in Qilla Didar Singh for his alleged involvement in corruption and illegal constructions in the region. Reportedly, a citizen namely Hashmat Ali filed an application to anti-corruption department that accused officers of receiving bribe and allowing the builders to construct dozens of commercial buildings ‘illegally’ including shops in Rail Bazar, Khakwani Market, Garjakhi Gate Chand Plaza, Abdul Jabbar Plaza at Hafizabad Road and other plazas in the city. The applicant alleged that officers had caused huge financial losses to the national exchequer while No Objection Certificates (NOCs) were not approved from the district administration. Meanwhile, an anti-corruption team arrested sub-engineer Tahir Almas after conducting investigation into the matter. Further investigation is underway. ASI shot dead, wife injured in robbery attempt A police assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was gunned down on Friday while his wife left injured by armed robbers at Emanabad in the district of Gujranwala. Reportedly, ASI Aslam Bhinder and his wife Irshad were on their way back home when assailants intercepted and tried to snatch valuables from them. Meanwhile, they opened fire on Aslam when he tried to resist them. Consequently, he died on the spot while his wife sustained critical bullet injuries. They were rushed to DHQ Hospital. The city police officer (CPO) Ashfaq Khan has constituted two teams to supervise investigation and trace out the accused robbers. Four injured in clash over ownership of community centre At least four people sustained critical wounds in a clash between two groups over claiming ownership of a community centre located at Rahwali in Gujranwala. Reportedly, a brawl erupted between members of Christian community and chairman of Union Council (UC) when both groups claimed their ownership over a community centre. Consequently, injured people were rushed to DHQ Hospital. While talking to the media, the members of Christian community claimed their ownership over the centre and accused Ajmal Butt and UC chairman of occupying the community centre. Meanwhile, the area police started investigation into the matter. FIA nabs six bank officers The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday nabbed six bank officers for their alleged involvement in a mega corruption case. Reportedly, the deputy director Mufakhir Adeel said that bank officers including Qaiser mehmood, Muhammad Ibrar Ibrahim, Amjad Mehmood, Khuda Yar, Amir Ali and Tahir Mehmood have conducted bogus transactions from the accounts of customers of a private bank located in Pasrur and withdrew Rs 62.6 million from their accounts.
