ISLAMABAD: The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, on Tuesday pledged not to give any relief to those who damaged an important asset like the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). The CJP made these remarks during the suo motu notice he had taken on the privatization of the national airline and its poor financial condition. Former aviation adviser Shujat Azeem and incumbent aviation adviser Sardar Mehtab Abbasi were also present during today’s hearing. The CJP, while addressing Abbasi, also mentioned that PIA had not suffered a lot during former aviation advisor Shujat Azeem’s tenure. The court had also appointed well-known economist Farrukh Saleem as amicus curiae who gave a briefing to the bench about the PIA’s conditions. As the hearing began, the Chief Justice questioned whether all former Managing Directors (MD) of the airline were present in the court as he had previously ordered. The court had only allowed the MDs to leave on a temporary basis.
