Co-chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and former President, Asif Ali Zardari commented early Saturday that the recent budget the incumbent government revealed on Friday held no real ‘legal, ethical or political value.’ Zardari claimed that the need to present the budget stemmed from greed and from political motives, and there was no ‘value’ in commenting on the budget. He also said that keeping in mind legal and ethical constraints, the Sindh government would announce its provincial budget for the next three months only. The former President also criticised the allocation for the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP), claiming that the government would use it as a front to hand out commissions on development schemes. He also chastised the incumbent federal government, claiming no previous government had been this unresponsive to the oppositions’ reservations. Mr Zardari’s co-chairperson and son, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also took a similarly critical tone, and accused the PML-N led government of pre-poll rigging by laying down the budget for the entire year. He also criticised the appointment of Mr Miftah Ismail as the new Finance Minister, calling the appointment as evidence of the ruling government’s “dictatorial grooming, undemocratic behaviour and sheer hypocrisy.”
