KASUR: Waleed Ashraf was in eighth grade when his life changed forever. Residing in Kasur, he became a victim of a physical assault that left his life in tatters, and destroyed his future. Young Waleed revealed these horrid details in a letter he wrote to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar that highlighted how Waleed continues to suffer from the trauma of the incident. The letter also highlights how lawyers and NGOs exploited Waleed’s plight, and did nothing to help them. Waleed also criticised the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) the Punjab Government had constituted to investigate the incident, and said that the JIT did not make Waleed’s statements a part of their investigation. He also lamented how he and his family had been visiting an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore without any results for the past three years, and how this had a significant monetary impact on them. The letter further highlights that Waleed’s tormentors continue to freely roam the streets, and also taunt and threaten him and his family over the incident. Waleed also mentioned how he and the other survivors of the sordid episode wish to leave Kasur because of the fear they have to live under.
