ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Monday said that exemptions were granted only to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, but not to former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif. Addressing the media outside accountability court, Marriyum criticised the court’s action of violating fundamental human rights. She said that Nawaz Sharif didn’t get exemption even to visit his ailing wife but Khan who fails to appear before the court is granted exemption. She said that all the claims made by key witness Wajid Zia had been proven wrong, yet Sharif was being called to the court every day. The minister further added that those who attacked the parliament were granted exemption by the same court. Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz returned from London on Monday morning after a short visit to ailing wife and mother Begum Kalsoom Nawaz. Kalsoom Nawaz has been suffering from cancer and is under treatment in London. The court had rejected exemption plea of Nawaz and Maryam, directing them to appear before the court hearing case proceedings on Monday. Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz had left for London on April 18.
