ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif is in Beijing to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) meeting that is to be held in the Chinese capital on the 23rd-24th of April. The CFM will aim to discuss matters of peace and security at both a regional and international level, and will also look to promote cooperation between member states. The meeting will also finalise preparations for the upcoming SCO Heads of State Council in Qingdao. Khawaja Asif is also set to meet his counterparts from the other SCO countries, including China’s Foreign Minister, on the side-lines of the CFM meeting. Pakistan gained admittance to the SCO in June 2017, and despite India’s best efforts to marginalise it, Islamabad has since then aimed to play a responsible role in shoring up regional cooperation and peace.
