LAHORE: The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar on Sunday said that the government has damaged the education system across the country. “The state of the country’s education system is deplorable. Is this the performance of the government?” CJP remarked while hearing the case regarding unmerited appointment of Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) Vice Chancellor. In his remarks, Justice Nisar, who was heading a two-judge bench said that “the Supreme Court has learned Ahsan Iqbal was involved in the appointment”, to which LCWU VC Uzma Qureshi said that “Ahsan Iqbal was my father’s student and I can categorically deny his involvement.” Punjab advocate general told the SC that a three-member search committee, including Razzak Daud, Umar Saif and Zafar Iqbal Qureshi has been appointed to look into the matter. The CJP remarked that the same committee will also look into future appointments. The apex court also ordered the vice chancellors of LCWU, Fatima Jinnah University, Rawalpindi Medical University and Faisalabad Medical University to resign with immediate effect and directed the search committee to appoint VCs on merit.
