ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Khan Leghari, in a letter sent to Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah, has assured him of the federal government’s support in ending the present crisis of load-shedding in Karachi. The Minister has also requested the CM to ensure the Karachi Water Supply Board (KWSB) pays Rs 32 billion to K-Electric (KE) that will allow the latter to pay its dues to Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL). Leghari also argued that KE could have run its power plants on alternative sources of fuel, something the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) also highlighted in its report on the load-shedding crisis. NEPRA has blamed KE for the present blackouts, but KE holds that the SSGCL has curbed gas supplies to KE which has led to a drop in electricity generation.
