Lahore: Mayor of Karachi lamented in a press conference on Friday that he has no real mayoral powers. “Authority should be devolved to the lowest rungs of the hierarchy, but this is not happening. I am a mayor but I have no mayoral powers,” Waseem Akhtar said. The Mayor addressed the media after visiting Allama Iqbal’s tomb. He further added, “My party (MQM) is the second largest party of Karachi and the fourth largest in the country, and yet it is suffering due to personal differences.” On the prevailing load-shedding crisis in Karachi, the mayor beseeched the Prime Minister, the President and the Punjab Chief Minister to resolve the crisis soon and end people’s suffering.
