April 2 has marked the 15th anniversary of one of the most read English newspapers in Pakistan, Daily Times. The paper was launched on April 2, 2002 by the martyred former governor of Punjab, Salman Taseer. On the occasion of the paper’s 15th birthday, Editor-in-chief Shehryar Taseer said in a Twitter message that the Daily Times has emerged as a pro-democratic and a liberal force in the country. #HappyBirthdayDT 15 years ago my father @SalmaanTaseer became a proud publisher of the very first edition of the @dailytimespak Today the paper stands strong as a pro democratic & a liberal force in r country.Proud of my editor @Razarumi who has helped me rebuild this institution — Shehryar Taseer (@shehryar_taseer) April 2, 2018 Taseer further said the Daily Times is playing a very constructive role in presenting Pakistan’s positive image regardless of any fear. “Daily Times is the voice of Pakistanis,” he said. “Objective journalism, protection of human rights and the rule of democracy” is the manifesto of the paper, Taseer added. He also thanked editor Raza Rumi for helping him ‘rebuild the institution’.
