HYDERABAD: An employee of Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Hyderabad attempted to commit suicide on Tuesday while protesting against the non-payment of WASA employees salaries outside DG WASA office; however, he was stopped by the other protesters. The Hyderabad Development Authority (HDA) Employees Union (CBA) is on the protest since Sunday against the nonpayment of salaries. On the occasion, addressing the employees, the union’s President Behram Chang and General Secretary Abdul Qayum Bhatti warned the HAD authorities to release their salaries within fifteen days otherwise the water supply and sewerage systems of the all three subdivisions of Hyderabad will be shut. They said the purpose of taking out rallies from last 3 days was to inform the general public about the problems confronted by the workers of the HDA and Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA). “We have been made to work without 4 to 6 months salaries. We are finding it hard to make both ends meet,” They said We appealed the political and religious parties as well as the civil society organizations to support the union because their problem was not only a humanitarian issue but their strike would also create water supply and drainage problems in the district.
