ISLAMABAD: Chahbhar and Gwadar porst will complement each other in times to come, said former chief of the Naval Staff Admrial Asif Sandila on Tuesday. Speaking as the chief guest at a book launching ceremony, he said that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would prove to be a game changer for Pakistan. Written by Dr Azhar Ahmad, the book, Gwadar: Balance in Transition’ was launched on the occasion. The event was organised by the China-Pakistan Study Centre (CPSC) at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI). ‘Gwadar: Balance in Transition’ is an in-depth study of the multi-dimensional aspects of Gwadar and contextualises the evolving dynamics of the maritime affairs in the region. Distinguished commentators at the ceremony included, Rear Admiral Farrokh Ahmed, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Projects), Dr Pervaiz Iqbal Cheema, Dean Faculty of Contemporary Studies, National Defense University (NDU), Islamabad; Zhao Lijian, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Islamabad and Dr Azhar Ahmed, Head of Department, Humanities and Social Sciences, Bahria University, Islamabad. Earlier in his welcome remarks, ISSI Chairman Khalid Mahmood introduced the author and lauded his scholarly efforts to contribute to the existing literature on Pakistan’s maritime sector, especially the neglected importance of Gwadar. He said that the book would be a valuable all-encompassing contribution to understanding Gwadar and its maritime significance in the geo-economic calculus of Pakistan.
