KHYBER AGENCY: Construction of Landi Khana water supply scheme will be initiated this month. The project to be completed at a cost of Rs122 million will help solve the issue of scarcity of potable water, Khyber Agency Political Agent Khalid Mehmood said on Wednesday. He was speaking at a ceremony held to distribute mojeb (tribal incentive) cheques among jirgas of Zakha Khel, Shinwari and Shelmani tribes. The PA assured the participants that their problems would be solved on a priority basis. He said basic facilities would be provided to the tribesmen at their doorsteps. “All link roads in the tehsil will be repaired and power supply to Agency headquarters hospital will be resumed on payment of arrears,” he said. The PA said that once approval had been obtained from higher ups vacancies in the Levies would be filled with a quota set aside to provide jobs to tribesmen with low education qualification. Mehmood assured participants that higher ups would be requested to make necessary arrangements at Torkham border for provision of livelihoods opportunities for tribesmen. Earlier, elders of all three tribes represented at the gathering apprised the PA about their problems. They assured the administration of their complete support in establishment of law and order. They said they would permit no one to disturb peaceful environment of the area. Cheques were distributed among tribal elders at the end of the ceremony.
