MULTAN: The first ever Violence Against Women Centre (VAWC) was inaugurated in Multan on Saturday. The step was taken by the Punjab government in order to protect women against persecution. Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the opening ceremony of VAWC, located at Mati Tal Road Multan. He said that the centre’s core objective was to empower women besides providing them protection against violence. CM said, “The centre will help improve the country’s justice system and all the facilities will be provided to female victims under one roof.” He added that the centre would offer services including first aid, police reporting, prosecution, treatment, FIR lodging, medical exam, psychological evaluation and counselling as well as post-trauma rehabilitation. According to the chief minister, more such centres would be established at the district level.
