SARGODHA: An independent candidate backed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has won the by-polls in the Punjab Assembly constituency PP-30, Sargodha, according to unofficial results from all 137 polling stations. Yasir Zafar Sindhu bagged 42,736 votes. He was followed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) nominee Sajid Mehmood, who secured 23,586 votes. Mehmood had recently joined PTI after party ways with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F). The provincial assembly seat had fallen vacant after the death of Chaudhry Tahir Sindhu. A total of 137 polling stations had been set up for polling in the constituency, which consists of 16 union councils of Tehsil Kot Momin and Tehsil Bhalwal. Of the 173,912 registered voters in the constituency, 75,776 are women. Rangers and police personnel had also been deployed in the constituency for security during the by-polls. Two SPs, five DSPs, seven inspectors and over a thousand officials were deployed to ensure a smooth voting process. Published in Daily Times, March 5th 2018.
