Lahore: At least four security officials lost their lives and several others suffered injuries in an explosion in the outskirts of Quetta on Wednesday night. Earlier in the day, two policemen were martyred in a targeted attack on their convoy on Samungli Road. The late night blast targeted a Frontier Corps (FC) checkpost in the Darvaish Belili area. There were reports of firing in the area soon after the blast. The exact nature of the blast could not be ascertained as yet, however, a security official was reported in the media as saying that it could be a suicide attack. A heavy contingent of police, Levies and Frontier Corps personnel later reached the site of the blast for rescue operations. The injured were shifted to the Civil Hospital for treatment and the area was cordoned off as a search operation went underway. The police who died in the attack on DSP Hameedullah Dasti’s convoy were identified as constables Mohammad Tahir and Ayub Shah. A series of attacks targeting police and other law enforcement officials have rocked the city in the recent months.
