LAHORE: Former Director General (DG) of Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Ahad Cheema had on Thursday been presented by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) before Accountability Court over corruption charges in Ashyana-e-Iqbal Housing project, reported Daily Times. Cheema was presented before the accountability court where NAB will officially file request for his physical remand. Cheema was arrested yesterday from Lahore’s MM Alam Road. The former LDA DG has been accused of receiving 32 Kanals of land in bribe. He will also be probed about the fire that had broken out in LDA Plaza on May 9, 2013, killing eight and burning invaluable land record. After hearing the arguments, NAB handed Ahad Cheema to NAB on 11-day physical remand. NAB told that Ahad Cheema had not appeared before the court despite being summoned and was arrested fearing his possible flight from the country. Media’s entry to the court was barred on this occasion by the police. DSP Durrani claimed that he couldn’t let the media inside the court room unless allowed by the judge. The reporters argued that the judge had not imposed any ban, yet Durrani remained adamant and refused to allow media the access to the hearing.
