KHYBER AGENCY: Elders of the Khuga Khel tribe asked the administration to resume the taxi stand service of Torkham that had been suspended for the last 14 months because of the conflict of two contractors. Addressing a press conference atLandiKotalPress Club on Monday, tribal elders including KhayalRasool,Atta Khan,AurangBacha,Malik Nabi Khan and others said that the taxi stand service had been established on KhugaKhel property and it was the main source of income for hundreds of needy and poor families. It had been shut down for the 14 months due to an auction dispute of the stand between two contractors. “The case is in court and nobody knows that when itsreopening will be decided but the loss of the KhugaKhel tribe is very much there which is regretful,” they argued. They were of the view that this taxi stand service was the only source for taxi drivers to earn their bread and butter and so its closing was causing complete starvation for the families of those taxi drivers. The tribal elders requested to resume the taxi stand service. They demanded of the Khyber Pakhthunkhwa governor, Additional Chief Sectary and Political Agent of the Khyber Agency to restart the taxi stand service to avoid further loss of the local tribals.
