KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Sirajul Haq on Sunday threatened the Sindh government to hold grand protests if justice is not served in Naqeebullah Mehsud case within 10 days. JI ameer also demanded that a judicial committee be formed to investigate the matter and that removal of Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Rao Anwar, who spearheaded alleged encounter of Naqeebullah, was insufficient. “Anwar’s removal is not enough, we want to see him court,” Siraj said. Naqeebullah Mehsud, a 27-year-old South Waziristan native, was gunned down in an alleged police encounter on January 13 in Shah Latif town by SSP Rao-led cadre. Pertaining orders from Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal on Thursday, Inspector General (IG) Sindh AD Khawaja established a committee consisting of Inspector General Police (IGP) Counter-terrorism Department (CTD) Sanaullah Abbasi, DIG South and East to probe the alleged encounter. SSP Rao was summoned by the committee but was later removed from his post after evidences provided by him related to Naqeebullah’s criminal record were deemed ‘baseless’ by the probing unit.
