On January 13, Naqeebullah Mehsud was fatally shot during a raid on a ‘terrorist hideout’ in an ‘encounter’ at Shah Latif town in Karachi, according to police sources. Relatives of the 27-year-old South Waziristan native, however, claim that he was abducted from his fabric outlet on January 3, and later shot in an ‘extra judicial murder’. Pertaining orders from Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal on Thursday, IG Sindh AD Khawaja established a committee consisting of Inspector General Police (IGP) Counter-terrorism Department (CTD) Sanaullah Abbasi, DIG South and East to probe the alleged ‘encounter’. SSP Rao Anwar presented evidences related to Naqeebullah’s criminal record before the committee, which are being reviewed by the board. Talking to the media, Anwar reiterated his stance saying that the 27-year-old was ‘100 percent a terrorist.’ Naqeeb’s ‘encounter’ has caused a public uproar with demonstrations across various parts of the country. People have also voiced their anger on social media, demanding immediate reforms in the policing system and justice for Naqeeb. #PoliceNeedsReforms remained a leading trend on Twitter as users demanded an overhaul in police system. The relatives of Naqeeb who was allegedly killed during a shoot-out with police officials on January 12 have claimed that he was abducted on January 3 and then murdered in an extrajudicial encounter.#PoliceNeedsReforms — Muneer Ahmed (@muneer_mirani) January 19, 2018 Qualities of a Police Officer. HUMANITY We respect life and liberty. We are sensitive and inclusive, treating everyone with dignity and compassion. Both are same. #PoliceNeedsReforms — Imaan Afridi (@ImaanAfridi) January 19, 2018 The police should be independent and not under the influence of any political party. Empower them with every civil right and should be able to investigate any matter on their own and not be a puppet in the hands of politicians.#PoliceNeedsReforms — Ayesha (Insaf Tigress) ✨ (@AyeshaaImranist) January 19, 2018 #JusticeForNaqib was also among the leading trends. Rao Anwaar is misleading everyone by linking Naqeeb with TTP. Rao is known as a fake encounter specialist in Karachi. Really doubt if Naqeeb had links with terrorists. JIT must be formed to interrogate Rao. Sindh Police has a very poor record of mishandling cases #JusticeForNaqib pic.twitter.com/tAZ4TScQw8 — AM Shahid Latif (Retd) (@AMShahidLatif) January 18, 2018 “Dangerous Terrorist” Naqib Mehsud who was abducted then killed by SSP Rao Anwaar led Counter Terrorism Department(CTD),Karachi in a staged encounter can be seen in the video inviting his Facebook friends for get-together at his place. #JusticeForNaqib pic.twitter.com/6qBCad3QTN — Ihsan Tipu Mehsud (@IhsanTipu) January 17, 2018 #justiceforNaqeeb #JusticeForNaqib Protest at Karachi Press Club pic.twitter.com/jK49T9KTh7 — Wajih Sani (@wajih_sani) January 18, 2018 What has provoked Punjab and Sindh Police so much that all of a sudden they have started killing the unarmed men? First, Imran in Kasur, now Intezar and Naqeeb in Karachi. Police is for the protection of the citizens, not to kill them just like that. Disappointed #JusticeForNaqib — Lt Gen Amjad Shoaib (@GenAmjadShoaib) January 18, 2018 SSP #RaoAnwar should be removed & tried for extra judicial murder. Inquiry Committee formed by #Sindh Govt is a joke. We reject it. CJ SupremeCourt should take suo moto notice. Parliament should oversee cases of enforced disappearances & extra judicial murders. #JusticeForNaqib https://t.co/Ph6VtJ3CIW — Bushra Gohar (@BushraGohar) January 18, 2018
