Pakistan national cricket team pacer Hasan Ali bagged ICC emerging player of year 2017 prize at International Cricket Council (ICC) awards on Thursday, while also making his place along with top-order batsman Babar Azam in One-Day International (ODI) team of the year. Hasan – who topped ICC ODI bowling rankings in little less than a year and a half taking 50 wickets in 24 international fixtures – received his award by thanking all those who continued to believe in his abilities. He also said that an acknowledgement such as an ICC award only makes him work harder and that he looks forward to the future, particularly the ICC World Cup 2019. “This acknowledgement will not only inspire me to do even better in the coming seasons but will also convince the next generation of cricketers that hard work and good performances can never go unnoticed. This award is for all those who believed and backed us in the journey,” said Hasan. Babar Azam – who holds the joint record for the fastest first 1,000 runs in the ODIs – was also inducted in the world’s best eleven. Among the other honours, Indian skipper Virat Kohli was awarded ICC men’s cricketer of the year and ICC ODI cricketer of the year, while Australian captain Steve Smith was named ICC Test cricketer of the year. Afghanistan’s leg-spinner Rashid Khan was honoured with ICC Associate cricketer of the year. Pakistan’s ICC Champions Trophy 2017 was awarded fan’s moment of the year.
