LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) General Secretary Liaqat Baloch met on Monday at the residence of Mian Manzoor Wattoo. They had arrived there to offer condolences on the death of Wattoo’s father-in-law. Sources said that Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (Hashmi group) patron Pir Ejaz Hashmir and former minister Saeed Akbar Navani also met Bilawal. Political pundits termed the Bilawal-Baloch meeting of significant importance. It was reported that earlier, Bilawal and Asif Ali Zardari had assigned Wattoo the task of engaging in backdoor diplomacy with the leadership of several political parties for the upcoming general elections, especially in Punjab. Later, Bilawal Bhutto visited PPP Southern Punjab president Makhdoom Ahmad Mehmood’s residence in Model Town. After meeting PPP southern Punjab leaders, Bilawal held a press conference. Responding to a question, Bilawal endorsed the death penalty sentenced to Indian spy Kalbhoshan Yadhav. He admitted that although his party was against capital punishment in principle, the Indian agent’s case was different. “We do not support capital punishment in general. Everyone is aware of the injustice done to PPP founder Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto,” he added. He believed that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government had completely failed and his party would fight against the incumbent rulers. “Nawaz Sharif’s government is targeting our party just to hide its weaknesses. The government’s undemocratic acts will not be tolerated,” he said. Bilawal also felicitated the nation on Constitution Day.
