KARACHI: Joint Employees Action Committee of Pakistan Steel Mills held a protest demonstration for the restoration of the Steel Mills and utilization of the funds properly received by selling 1500 acres of land for CPEC. The employees staged a protest demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club on Friday, demanding the release of non-payment of dead employees’ funds at the earliest which have not been released since 2013, despite SHC’s orders. They also called for the appointment of a professional management and to increase the salaries of employees. “Medical facilities to the family members of retired employees must be provided and clearance of dues of retired employees must be ensured”, Mirza Maqssod, a member of the committee demanded. JEACPS convener, Syed Naeem Ul Haq ,said that due to the non-payment of dead employees’ funds and non-availability of medical facilities to staff and pensioners, the workers are facing great difficulties which could lead to law and order unrest. “Before the transfer of employees or decision on relevant matters CBA must be taken into confidence”, Naveed Aftab demanded adding that according to the law employees cadre can not be transferred to other departments without consulting with CBA. JEACPS Spokesman, Sarwar Niazi, said that many of the experienced and qualified officers have been retired but Board of Directors has not filled the vacant posts.
