LARKANA: Lakhi Assistant Commissioner Ameer Ali Mirani has confiscated 400 bags of Food Department from a shop over complaints of growers on Friday. Mirani told media that all the bags were filled with wheat which the shopkeeper Mor Tanwari had procured and kept in his shop which is located in village Khahi. He said that searching raids for selling government bardano (gunny wheat bags) to the businessmen will be continued in his jurisdiction and nobody will be spared in this regard. He said investigation is under way as to who sold these bags to the shopkeeper, adding that a case will be registered against the accused. Shopkeeper Mor Tanwari said that he had purchased Bardano from traders of Sukkur and allegations of getting it from Shikarpur authorities of Food Department are baseless. Upon hearing of the raids, the wheat traders closed their shops, godowns and ran away to escape arrests. It must be mentioned here that while presiding over a meeting of Food Department officers few days ago in Larkana, Larkana Division Commissioner Muhammad Abbas Baloch had warned the Food Department officials that selling of government bardano to traders, shopkeepers and businessmen will not be tolerated and cases will be registered against the defaulters. These gunny bags are to be given to growers on production of true copies of their land revenue record and not to any private person which should also be recommended by the concerned assistant commissioners.
