SWABI: On the third of mourning, demonstrators which comprised of activists and residents took to the streets of Zaida town to protest against the murder of Mardan Student, Mashal Khan. Streets were filled with slogans of “begunah, begunah, Mashal Khan begunah (Mashal Khan is innocent)”, the protestors also visited Mashal’s grave and prayed for him while laying flowers on his grave. The demonstrators included activists, residents, Mashal’s relatives and representatives of the Pakhtunkwa Peoples Movement. People also met Muhammad Iqbal, Mashal Khan’s father, at his house, offered their condolences, and recited Fatiha. The protest was organized by the Pakhtunkhwa Peoples Movement-organised rally, which originated at the deceased’s home and concluded at Zaida bazaar. Many women also took to the streets to be part of the rally. Speaking at the rally, Pakhtunkhwa Peoples Movement leader Dr Syed Alam Masood said, “Mashal Khan was not involved in any blasphemous activity, and was falsely accused. Some people killed him for personal reasons. We claim it as a terrorist act, and should accordingly be sent to the military court.”
