Gujranwala: Two laborers died and eight injured as a result of a fire incident here at a fan manufacturing factory. It was reported that laborers were busy working in a fan factory located at Model town, Gujranwala, when suddenly fire erupted and ten workers received burn injuries and were rushed to DHQ hospital where Umair resident of Multan and Irfan resident of Gujranwala succumbed to their injuries. Rescue 1122 teams have started a rescue operation to control the fire. Illegally hired employees continue to work at GEPCO: Despite audit objections, the practice of illegal recruitments in Gepco is carrying on without any hesitation, while no action was yet been taken against the illegally recruited persons and they are still enjoying the full benefits of salaries and other facilities. Sources said the that DG audit at Wapda has raised an objection on the appointment of chief financial officer Eyaz Ahmed who was recruited by the authorities without due process. The said officer is drawing Rs 300 thousand per monthly along with benefit of 300 liter petrol on a monthly basis, while the company secretary Maryam Baloch was also recruited with the offer of Rs 200 thousands and 250 liter petrol monthly. DG audit in his report said that these recruitments have been made illegally and against the Wapda rules. On the other hand Wapda authorities have taken no action against the said officers. Rally against poisonous materials used in factories to reduce pollution: A rally against pollution was held under the leadership of the Mayor municipal corporation Sheikh Sarwat Ikram, while hundreds of citizens and school children participated in it. The participants holding banners against pollution marched from the corporation office to Sheranwala Bagh. Speaking at the occasion the mayor said that poisonous smoke which is discharged from the factories causes dangerous diseases in the public. He said the government is trying its best to control the air pollution and in this regard we want the cooperation from factory owners, they should not use banned materials in their factories. Christian workers demand salaries before Christmas: Dozens of employees of the waste management company staged a demonstration protest against the administration for not issuing their salaries before Christmas. The protesters chanted slogans and alleged that the government has issued directions to issue salaries of Christian employees whereas the waste management officers did not issued their salaries till today. They demanded that the managing director has said that the salaries of the Christian community may be issued immediately so that Christian employees could have a joyous Christmas. FIA arrests a Daska bank manager for fraud: The FIA team has arrested a bank manager in a fraud case from Daska. Deputy Director Mufakhar Adeel said that the accused operation manager at HBL Daska Tariq Mehmood was involved in transferring 2.3 million from a customer’s account illegally.
