KARACHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday came hard on the provincial authorities over their lethargic attitude in setting up of plants in coastal areas of the city to treat sewage dumping at sea and observed that they would not compromise on the issue of lives of the people. A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar was hearing the case regarding environmental pollution at the city harbour and coastal areas and their poisoning due to unmitigated release of industrial waste. Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah were the other two members of the bench that was hearing a case at its Karachi registry. During the hearing, the advocate general Sindh informed the court that the provincial government was taking effective measures to resolve the environmental pollution issue. “It is seemed from your comment that the problem had already been resolved. It is such a big issue and the provincial authority is pretending that there was nothing,” the CJP remarked. Published in Daily Times, December 6th 2017.
