KARACHI: Pakistan Super League 2017 champions Peshawar Zalmi will host their own Global Zalmi Super League next year. The franchise, which held Zalmi World Cup before PSL 2 in United Arab Emirates, will hold Global Zalmi League before PSL 3 this time. “Zalmi, who enjoy a global fan base, will see 16 teams from 16 countries participating in Global Zalmi League,” a Peshawar Zalmi spokesman said on Tuesday. The franchise, owned by Javed Afridi, also announced Global Zalmi team who are selected from last year’s Zalmi World Cup. The team members consist of young players from across the world who had participated in the major event of Global Zalmi. Abraash Khan from Canada Zalmi has been appointed as captain of the Global Zalmi team. Javed Afridi, chairman of Peshawar Zalmi, congratulated the players upon their selection and appreciated their dedication. Five top players of Global Zalmi League 2018 will practice with Peshawar Zalmi team during PSL as part of Global Zalmi development program. “It’s a very balanced team with an excellent combination of young attacking batsmen and genuine quick fast bowlers, supported by leg spin option, a bunch of super fit athletes from across the globe,” added the spokesman. He pointed out that the Emerging category had also been introduced, with three players selected as Emerging players who would be part of the Playing XI. The full schedule and other details about Zalmi Super League will be announced in January 2018. Global Zalmi squad: 1.
