GUJRANWALA: Robbers took away cash, gold ornaments, vehicles and other valuables in 17 different incidents on Thursday. Two armed men snatched Rs 9,000, a motorcycle and a mobile phone from Umair in Khiali. In Wazirabad, Fareed was deprived of Rs 63,000, two mobile phones and gold jewellery at gun point; whereas Muhaud Din was robbed of Rs 17,000 and four mobile phones in the same area. In Emanabad area, robbers snatched Rs 30,000 thousands, gold jewellery and two mobile phones from Habib. In Qila Didar Singh, robbers looted Rs 57,000, gold jewellery and a mobile phone from Mudassar. In Wahndo, bandits snatched Rs 57,000 and two mobile phones from Anjum. In Nowshera Virkan, dacoits took away Rs 40,000, two mobile phones and gold jewellery from Shani. In Kot Ladha, Sohail was deprived of Rs 80,000, two mobile phones and gold jewellery at gun point. In Wazirabad’s Saddar area, robbers looted Rs 43,000 and two mobile phones from Afzal. In Tatlewali, armed men intercepted Shahbaz and deprived him of Rs 27,000, two mobile phones and gold jewellery. In Sohdra, robbers snatched Rs 110,000, three mobile phones and gold ornaments from Latif. In theft incidents, unidentified thieves took away cash, vehicles and other valuables from houses and shops of Ishaq, Zahid Hameed, Rizwan and Mansoor. Anti-graft body arrests 3: Three officials were held by Anti-Corruption Establishment Gujranwala on Thursday and cases registered against them. Anti-Corruption Establishment Gujranwala Regional Director Fareed Ahmed, while speaking to the media, said that a tax officer, Muhammad Arif, and constable, Mohsin Iqbal, were reported to have demanded bribes from a citizen for issuing him a NOC of his house. He said anti-corruption team on the application of the citizen conducted a raid and held both officials while receiving a bribe of Rs 6,000. In another raid conduced at Pindi Bhattian Municipal Committee office, a computer operator, Ansar Abbas, was caught while receiving a bribe of Rs 3,000 from a citizen. ‘Sports pivotal for children’: Former Gujranwala Chamber Of Commerce vice president Chaudhary Salahud Din Jamil said that sports and extracurricular activities play important role in developing sportsmanship & team spirit in children and make them physically and mentally fit. “There is a great need to provide sports grounds and opportunities to children in educational institutions so that they are able to polish their physical and mental skills,” he said while addressing a sports day ceremony. He urged students to participate in extracurricular activities for healthy growth and development.
