LAHORE: The Chief Justice of Pakistan has dismissed the objections to petitions challenging the Elections Act 2017. The objections presented by the registrar, were overruled by CJP on Wednesday. The registrar had directed the petitioners to approach the “relevant forum” for redressal of their objections, ordering the Registrar to fix the petition for hearing. The petitions were filed by Awami Muslim League (AML) leader Sheikh Rasheed, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Member of National Assembly Jamshed Dasti and several others against the recently-passed law. Khan who filed his petition under Article 184/3 of the Constitution maintained that the amendments in the act are in violation of the Constitution as a disqualified legislator cannot become a party chief.
