LAHORE: Former President General (r) Pervez Musharraf has announced Pakistan Awami Itehad (PAI), a “grand alliance of 23 political parties”. Addressing a press conference on Friday, Musharraf announced the political alliance headed by him and revealed that its Secretary General will be Iqbal Dar. He also revealed that its head office will be in Islamabad. He also dismissed all rumours about him joining Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) and said that it was below him to lead a “minor, ethnic party” and added that Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM-P) is only a fragment of what the original party had been. He also cited concerns for the internal problems of the party while suggesting that he was not interested in becoming the leader of MQM-P or Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP). Former President also said that it would be much better for the Muhajjir community to join PAI because MQM had lost its respect. He further said that he still thinks that MQM-P and PSP should form an alliance.
